General presentation
Aigüestortes and Val d'Aran
High Pyrenean mountain with lakes, valleys, villages of Aranese, access to the national park and a Spanish Alpine atmosphere.
Lake Sant Maurici, Val d'Aran and Espot give the most telling landmarks of Aigüestortes and Val d'Aran. Together, they form a destination where mountain reliefs, shores and lakes, natural spaces and the countryside meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 6 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: seasonal mountain access and changing weather. A car is usually the easiest way to connect different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

World Heritage
Églises romanes catalanes de la Vall de Boí
In the Vall de Boí, each village seems to respond to the next one by its Romanesque bell tower, set between meadows, stone walls and Pyrenees mountains. The churches of Taüll, Erill la Vall or Boí are distinguished by their slender silhouettes and their murals, the originals and copies of which tell a religious art closely linked to the valley.

Mountain lake
Estany de Sant Maurici
The Estany de Sant Maurici reflects the needles of the Encantats in a dark water lined with pines and granite blocks. Even from the simplest accesses, the landscape has a high mountain intensity; the surrounding trails add waterfalls, clearings and viewpoints for those who want to walk more.

Vallee
Val d'Aran
The Aran Valley runs as a succession of screens: villages, rivers, mountainous passages, and changes of light depending on the opening of each corner. The contrasts between exposed areas and shaded areas are mainly read, with a feeling of very physical depth. The territory turns out to be at a progressive pace, more sensitive when you cut off the tourist approach.

Basic village
Espot
Espot is a very concrete stage, carried by its squares, its fronts and its movement of daily life rather than by a single monument. The details of facades, the smell of shops and the local way back and forth give an immediate material to the trip. By going there slowly, we understand why this village serves as an anchor for the rest of the area.
