General presentation
Chaco Culture
Large ancestral ceremonial center consisting of monumental houses isolated in a high desert.
To understand what Chaco Culture is, you have to look at Pueblo Bonito, Chetro Ketl and Casa Rinconada. These places give us a view of a territory marked by desert areas, heritage and natural spaces and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

For a stay of 2 to 4 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be verified step by step.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Place indismissible
Pueblo Bonito
Pueblo Bonito is Chaco Canyon's most famous large house, with its curved walls, many rooms and kivas that testify to a major ceremonial and political centre. Walking along the masonries, one perceives the precision of the alignments and the extent of the collective work undertaken here.

Place indismissible
Chetro Ketl
Chetro Ketl impresses with the extent of its low walls, its large kiva and its direct relation to the cliffs of Chaco Canyon. Less immediately readable than Pueblo Bonito, the site rewards patient observation: niches, aligned doors, carefully cut blocks and wide open space tell an architecture thought for gatherings.

Place indismissible
Casa Rinconada
Casa Rinconada is one of the most legible large kivas of Chaco Canyon, laid away from the massive walls of Pueblo Bonito and Chetro Ketl. The circle dug into the ground, the benches and the aligned openings give a concrete idea of the Chacoan ceremonial gatherings, with the canyon as a backdrop.

Nature and panorama
Fajada Butte
Fajada Butte sets its isolated silhouette above the bottom of Chaco Canyon, as a natural landmark visible from several areas of the park. Its cliffs are home to traces of ancient occupation, but the site is best known for solar markers associated with the Sun Dagger site, which is now protected and not accessible to the public.
