General presentation
Comporta, Melides et côte de l'Alentejo
Littoral long and low between dunes, rice fields, discreet villages, Atlantic beaches and very slow atmosphere.
Comporta, Carvalhal and Melides give the most eloquent landmarks of Comporta, Melides and the Alentejo coast. Together, they form a destination where the coastline, natural spaces and the countryside meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than a single uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 6 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be expected: expensive accommodation and fresh ocean. A car is usually the easiest way to connect different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be checked step by step.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Village and coastline
Comporta
Comporta preserves a small center with low houses between rice fields, pine forests and dunes of the Sado estuary. A walk easily connects the village with the agricultural landscapes, then the road leads to a much larger ocean beach than the village suggests. The interest lies precisely in this rapid passage between local life and the great coastline.

Beach and nature
Plage et lagune de Melides
In Melides, a calm water lagoon runs along the dunes before meeting the great Atlantic beach. The paths allow to observe birds, reeds and variations of light, then to reach the ocean in a few minutes. This double presence of water makes the stopover more varied than a simple beach day.

Nature reserve
Lagoa de Santo André
La Lagoa de Santo André is a vast wetland separated from the Atlantic by a dune cordon. From the observatories and shore paths, we follow the reeds, bird benches and the opening of the landscape towards the ocean. The quiet morning hours give the best conditions to grasp the natural richness of the site.
