General presentation
Crète
Large mountainous island between Minoan palaces, gorges, Venetian cities, powerful beaches and inland villages.
Knossos, Chania and Gorges de Samaria give the most telling landmarks of Crete. Together, they form a destination where island landscapes, coastline, mountain reliefs and heritage meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 5 to 12 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: long distances and heat and wind according to coast. A car is usually the easiest way to connect different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be checked step by step.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Town or village
Knossos
Knossos is the most telling Minoan palace of Crète, with courtyards, staircases, restored frescoes and reconstructed volumes that help to read the remains. The visit is more precise with the Heraklion Museum, where the original objects give flesh to the rites, exchanges and Minoan power.

Town or village
La Canée
La Canée concentrates the Cretan west in an old Venetian port bordered by colorful facades, minarets, arsenaux and dense alleyways. It allows to alternate town, kitchen, lagoon beaches and roads to the White Mountains without changing base every night.

Nature
Gorges de Samaria
The Samaria Gorges offer a long walk between rocky walls, pines, torrent bed and narrow passages before the arrival to the Libyan Sea. The experience requires a real day and good shoes, but it reveals the Crète inside in what it has most mineral.
