Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Remarkable location
IJsselmeer
The IJsselmeer is a vast stretch of fresh water born from the closure of the ancient Zuiderzee, bordered by dykes, historic harbours and flat horizons. Around Enkhuizen and Hoorn, the lake tells very concretely the Dutch relationship to the water: sailboats, locks, polders and villages turned towards the ancient maritime traffics.

Place
Hoorn
Hoorn keeps in its docks, gabled houses and ponds the memory of a merchant port facing the Zuiderzee. The city is well discovered by following the water front and then the streets of the centre, where cafes, ancient facades and boats give a living reading of its maritime past.

Place
Enkhuizen
Enkhuizen mixes harbours, narrow alleys, old gates and the Markermeer horizon in a clear city atmosphere. There is easy passage from lively docks to quieter streets, with maritime details everywhere: ropes, bridges, warehouses and wind-facing facades.

Museum
Zuiderzee Museum
The Zuiderzee Museum revives the cultures of the old inner Gulf through displaced houses, workshops, boats, costumes and everyday objects. Its outdoor part gives a very concrete visit, where it understands how fishing, trade, dykes and winds shaped the cities around the water.
