General presentation
Étretat et Pays de Caux
Etretat is an ancient seaside resort nestled in a valley of the Coast of Albâtre, facing a set of limestone cliffs carved by the sea. On both sides of the pebble beach, the cliff of Amont, the gate of Aval, the Needle and the Manneport make up an immediately recognizable landscape, whose forms change with light, tides and mist.
The high trails open successive views of the arches and the white coastal line, while the village, the Étretat Gardens and the seafront recall the place’s artistic and seaside history. Further away, the Pays de Caux unfolds an agricultural plateau cut by valley mouths, with farm enclosures, villages and quieter beaches that give scope to a stay beyond the famous viewpoint alone.
See all
Etretat is very popular: coming early or late in the day allows you to find more calm and facilitates access. The station can be reached by public transport, but exploring the valleys and villages of Pays de Caux without car asks to prepare the connections carefully; on site, you also have to check the weather and the tides, stay on the paths allowed and keep a wide distance with the edge as with the foot of the cliffs.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Natural site
Aiguille et arche d'Aval
The Aval Needle and Arch concentrates the tension between emptiness, rock and passage: a corridor where the view opens abruptly onto the ocean. The light plays pass through the rock crack and alter the contrasts every minute. The place is better when one alternates stationary and wandering, without running.

Natural site
Falaises d'Etretat
At Etretat, the cliffs impose a natural dramaturgy: white matter, steep reliefs, and sea that reframes the landscape at each tide. We understand the place by moving in small segments, then returning to a few points of view to grasp the scale. Morning hours avoid over-surgence while maintaining the legibility of forms.

Garden
Jardins d'Etretat
The Jardins d'Etretat articulate height and slope with a discreet plant setting: terraces, alleys, alignments, grassy folds that serve as breath at the site. The pleasure is to move from the distant look to the detail of the mountains. The clear afternoon or a foggy morning changes radically the atmosphere, according to your preference.
