General presentation
Great Smoky Mountains
Crèmes mémumeées, forestes très riches et vallées historiques des Appalaches.
The discovery of Great Smoky Mountains is based around Clingmans Dome, Cades Cove and Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. The stay thus alternates between mountain reliefs, forests and natural spaces, giving a concrete picture of the destination beyond its only best known site.
See all
For a stay of 4 to 8 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: changing weather in altitude. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be verified step by step.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Place indismissible
Clingmans Dome
Clingmans Dome, now officially named Kuwohi, places the look above the undulating ridges of the Great Smoky Mountains. The ramp towards the panoramic tower is short but steep, and the finish discovers layers of blue mountains, often caught in the mist. In clear weather, the rising or the end of the day gives the reliefs a spectacular depth without excessive crowds.

Nature and landscape
Cades Cove
Cades Cove is an isolated valley in the heart of the Smokies, with ruins of farms, framed access roads and visible wildlife at the detour of the roads. It is seen both the old rural world and the natural setting of the park, making it a very structural stop.

Nature and landscape
Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail in loop crosses rivers and mountain buildings near Gatlinburg, before joining short trails to waterfalls and old farms of rural exploitation. It functions as a gateway to the memory of the region as well as to its densest landscapes.
