General presentation
Guadalupe et Villuercas
Major Monastery, reliefs of Villuercas-Ibores-Jara geopark, isolated villages and quiet roads of Eastern Extremadura.
Royal Monastery of Guadalupe, Guadalupe and Geoparc Villuercas-Ibores-Jara give the most telling landmarks of Guadalupe and Villuercas. Together, they form a destination where heritage, mountain reliefs, natural spaces and the countryside meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 2 to 4 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: spaced services and strong heat in summer. A car is usually the easiest way to connect different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be checked step by step.

Places worth visiting

World Heritage
Patrimoine du mercure. Almadén et Idrija
Almadén and Idrija tell the story of mercury, liquid metal extracted, stored and sold on a large scale for centuries. Wells, galleries, warehouses, mine buildings and technical equipment show a dangerous but decisive industry in global trade, especially for the processing of money in America.

Heritage
Monastère royal de Santa María de Guadalupe
The royal monastery blends fortresses, mudejar cloisters and sanctuary in a monumental ensemble hanging in the village of Guadalupe. Behind its harsh facade, the visit passes through finely decorated courses, a painted sacristy and centuries of Spanish religious art. It is the great historical landmark of a stay in the Villuercas.

Nature
Sierra de las Villuercas
The Villuercas have an unusual succession of parallel ridges, forested valleys and rocky outcrops. Roads and trails win sights from which this geology is almost like a map in relief. The area is particularly suitable for a day of hiking or discovery by car with several panoramic stops.

Town or village
Guadalupe
Guadalupe is organized around its monastery, but its wooden balconies, fountains and steep alleys give the village a clean presence. Leaving the main square, we discover a compact old fabric where views of the mountains appear at the end of the streets. A walk at the end of the day completes the visit of the sanctuary.
