General presentation
Gyantsé
Dzong, monastery and agricultural landscapes make up a more narrow historical stage between Lhasa and Shigatsé.
To understand what Gyantsé is, you must look at the side of Palcho Monastery, Gyantsé Kumbum and Gyantsé Dzong. These places give us a view of a territory marked by urban life, heritage, mountain reliefs and the countryside and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

For a stay of 2 to 5 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Monastery
Monastère de Palcho
Palcho gathers several Buddhist traditions around a vast fortified monastery. The site is visited with respect for the offices and with particular attention to ancient paintings. A slow visit allows to go beyond the only points of view best known.

Place indismissible
Kumbum de Gyantsé
The large chörten on storey contains many chapels decorated with paintings and sculptures. The narrow stairs and altitude make the climb slow, which favours detailed observation.

Dzong
Dzong de Gyantsé
The dzong dominates the agricultural plain from a rocky spur in the centre of the valley. The climb exposes to the sun and offers the best panorama of the old town and Palcho.
