General presentation
Juneau
Capital without access road, glaciers and mountains at the edge of the Interior Passage.
Mendenhall Glacier, Mount Roberts Tramway and Alaska State Museum give the most telling landmarks of Juneau. Together, they form a destination where urban life, the coastline, mountain reliefs and natural spaces meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 6 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Nature and panorama
Mendenhall Glacier
Mendenhall Glacier places a bluish ice tongue at the end of a lake, a short distance from Juneau, with Nugget Falls falling to the side. The paths of the area show both rainforest, moraines and the retreat of the glacier; in bad weather, clouds often reinforce the colours of the ice.

Nature and panorama
Mount Roberts Tramway
Mount Roberts Tramway climbs from the Juneau seafront to open gazebos on the Gastineau Channel, the islands and surrounding mountains. At the top, trails allow the view to be extended over the city, with a rapid transition between cruise docks, humid forest and alpine ridges.

Culture and heritage
Alaska State Museum
The Alaska State Museum brings together Aboriginal objects, Russian souvenirs, works of art, fishing equipment and stories related to communities across the state. In Juneau, it serves as an inner counterpoint to glaciers and fjords: showcases show the exchanges, languages, materials and human stories behind the landscapes.

Place indismissible
Tracy Arm
Tracy Arm is a narrow fjord where the boats move between steep walls, waterfalls and icebergs detached from Sawyer glaciers. The journey counts as much as the terminus: seals on the ice, dark reflections, mist and wet cliffs make up an exit very dependent on the weather and the state of the ice.
