General presentation
Adıyaman et le Nemrut Dağı
Around Adıyaman and Kâhta, the kingdom of Commagene has left shrines, reliefs and funeral monuments. The summit of the Nemrut Dağı is the highest point, complemented by Arsameia, Karakuş, the bridge of Cendere and Perre. The route combines mountain roads with several scattered archaeological sites.
Sanctuary of the Nemrut Dağı, Arsameia on the Nymphaios and the Cendere Bridge — Severian Bridge give the most telling landmarks of Adıyaman and the Nemrut Dağı. Together, they form a destination where heritage, mountain reliefs and the countryside meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than a single uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 4 days, it is better to balance the visits and the travel times. Also to be anticipated: increased vigilance and nemrut d'Adıyaman: shrine of Commagen, not the homonymous caldera near Tatvan. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Heritage
Sanctuaire du Nemrut Dağı
At the top of the Nemrut d'Adıyaman, the funeral sanctuary of Antiochos I of Commagene combines a tumulus and monumental statues. His figures combine Greek and Iranian references. This site is distinct from the Nemrut volcano near Van Lake.

Heritage
Arsameia sur le Nymphaios
Near Eski Kâhta, Arsameia was a royal centre of Commagen. The site is associated with the funeral sanctuary of Mithridate I, built by Antiochos I, and is another testimony of this dynasty in the Nemrut region.

Heritage
Pont de Cendere — pont Sévérien
The Roman bridge of Cendere crosses a tributary of the Kâhta Çayı near Arsameia. Built around the Several Age, it is a testimony of ancient communications in this region, complementary to the royal monuments of Commagen.

Heritage
Tumulus de Karakuş
Karakuş is a high funeral monument for women of the Commagenian dynasty. The name evokes the bird figurated at the top of a column. The inscriptions and carved elements complete the reading of the tumulus in its open landscape.
