Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Town or village
Portalegre
Portalegre climbs on the first reliefs of the Serra de São Mamede, between whitewashed houses, baroque houses and old tapestries manufactures. The streets of the centre connect the cathedral, the castle and the gazebos open to the Alentejo. Its high position gives it a cooler and tighter atmosphere than the nearby plain cities.

Fortified village
Marvão
Marvão occupies a rocky ridge so narrow that its ramparts seem to extend the mountain naturally. Crossing the doors, you climb between white houses and gardens to the castle, from where the view embraces the Alentejo and the Spanish Extremadura. A night or end of the day makes it possible to regain the silence that makes a great part of the character of the village.

Town or village
Castelo de Vide
Castelo de Vide is built on a hill crowned by its castle, with an ancient Jewish quarter, fountains and flowered alleys. The alternate ascent passages vaulted, small squares and escaped on the hills of São Mamede. Less spectacular than Marvão at first glance, the village rewards a slow exploration without a rigid itinerary.
