In the extreme southwestern Libyan, Ghat associates an ancient Saharan town with a fortress overlooking its rooftops. In the east, the Acacus is home to rocky landscapes and a rock heritage that traces the transformations of the Sahara. The whole is vast and isolated; it must be presented as a very high risk heritage territory, without offering an available expedition.

Ghat and the Tadrart Acacus
In the extreme southwestern Libyan, Ghat associates an ancient Saharan town with a fortress overlooking its rooftops. In the east, the Acacus is home to rocky landscapes and a rock heritage that traces the transformations of the Sahara. Former city of Ghat, the rock sites of Tadrart Acacus and Ghat Fortress give the most telling landmarks of Ghat and Tadrart Acacus. Together, they form a destination where desert areas, mountain reliefs and heritage meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
