Replanted forests, lakes and high-altitude meadows extend the former imperial hunting grounds to the edge of the steppe.
To understand what Saihanba is, look at Saihanba National Forest Park, Lake Qixing and Saihanba Prairies. These places give us a view of a territory marked by forests, shores and lakes, natural spaces and the countryside and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

Xanadu, or Shangdu, preserves the remains of Kubilai Khan's summer capital in inner Mongolia's meadows. Walls, palace foundations, quarter tracks and open landscape tell of the encounter between Mongolian nomadic culture and Chinese planning, in a place long loaded with imagination.

Shangdu This is the ancient Xanadu, the first capital and then summer residence of Kubilai Khan. The site is discovered by its walls, its platforms and vast meadows around it, which help to understand why this imperial city remained linked to the nomadic world.

Saihanba National Forest Park
Saihanba is a vast landscape of forests replanted on a plateau formerly degraded by erosion and overgrazing. Roads and tracks connect meadows, viewpoints and woods, with distances that make the car almost indispensable.

Lake Qixing
Qixing is a set of small waters and bogs bordered by footbridges in the heart of the park. Saihanba. The visit is short but very photogenic at dawn, when mist and herbs accentuate the relief of the plateau.
