Atar is the main urban centre of the Adrar, located on the Seguellil or the Seguellil. The city serves as a landmark to understand the surrounding oasis and reliefs, without being confused with each of the scattered villages and sites of the plateau.

Oasis de Terjit
Terjit occupies a gorge on the western edge of the plateau of the Adrar. A source feeds a palm-lined flow, giving this oasis a narrow and shaded character, different from the large open palm groves of the region.

Chinguetti is a historic stop in the east of Atar, with an old stone town, a mosque and family libraries. It is kept here for the consistency of the regional route, while having a dedicated destination area.
