Gaya's tumuli form grassy terre cemeteries linked to the former chiefdoms of the southern Korean peninsula. Gamcheon rises on a hill in a network of colourful houses, staircases and small streets. Artistic projects have transformed his image, but the slopes and views remind the popular history of a district built in stages after the war.
