Loess Hills
The Loess Hills form a strip of steep and thin hills deposited by the wind along the Missouri, with grassy ridges that quickly change colour according to the season. The landscape slices with the neighbouring agricultural plains: rolling roads, tight ravines, dry meadows and long views towards the valley.
Culture and heritage
Hitchcock Nature Center
Hitchcock Nature Center protects one of the best accesses to the Loess Hills ridges, with trails that pass from undergrowth to open meadows. From the tower of observation and the heights, the gaze is towards the Missouri valley; in spring and autumn, the migration of raptors adds a real reason to stagnate.
Nature and panorama
Preparation Canyon State Park
Preparation Canyon State Park offers a more wild and less developed version of Loess Hills, with cashed valleys, grassy slopes and quiet woods. The paths require more autonomy than in the more frequented sites, but the isolation gives a nice idea of these fragile hills shaped by the wind.
