Culture and heritage
National Automobile Museum
The National Automobile Museum in Reno presents a collection of ancient cars where one follows the evolution of American forms, uses and taste for the road. The Harrah collection's vehicles are staged in periods, with rutilating bodywork, first models, limo and cars linked to cinema or celebrities.
Culture and heritage
Nevada State Capitol
The Nevada State Capitol in Carson City maintains a more sober scale than many American capitols, with its clear facade and silver dome. The surrounding gardens and official buildings make up a quiet ensemble, useful to capture the role of Carson City between mining history, state policy and proximity to Sierra Nevada.
Culture and heritage
Virginia City Historic District
Virginia City Historic District retains the sloping streets, saloons, wooden facades and buildings linked to the Comstock Lode, one of the major mining episodes of Nevada. The place may seem theatrical, but the covered sidewalks, cemeteries and old mines recall the economic and human violence that shaped this high-altitude city.
Culture and heritage
Nevada State Museum
The Nevada State Museum Carson City occupies the old Mint of the city, which gives a strong framework to exhibitions on the mines, currency, fossils and peoples of Nevada. The rooms link the desert, money, railways and state construction.
