The discovery is based on reading a fragile archaeological complex, in an area where the journey remains formally discouraged.

The theatre is one of the most recognizable monuments of Sabratha. Its stage wall on several levels was the subject of a major reconstruction by anastylosis in the 20th century; the reliefs of the stage front enrich its reading.

The museum associated with the site preserves elements from the ancient city. The mosaics of the Basilica of Justinien are documented in its collections, which allows the decorations to be placed in their original architectural context.
