Zaanse Schans and the Zaanstreek
Mills, green houses, workshops and ancient industrial landscape on the Zaan.
To understand what Zaanse Schans and Zaanstreek are, you have to look at Zaanse Schans, Zaandam and Moulins de la Zaan. These places give us a view of a territory marked by urban life, riverscapes, heritage and the countryside and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

For a stay of 1 to 2 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to anticipate: very touristic day and better in the morning. The trip can be organised without a car if the drop point and local connections are selected in advance. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be checked step by step.

Village-museum
Zaanse Schans
Zaanse Schans brings together mills, green wood houses, workshops and canals in a landscape directly linked to the Zaan industrial history. The mechanisms, wood smells, artisanal demonstrations and wind-turning silhouettes make the visit very concrete, especially when you move a little away from the groups.
City
Zaandam
Zaandam combines industrial fabric and living quarters, creating very legible contrasts between productive heritage and current daily life. The neighborhood travels as a continuous visual narrative, especially by mixing main streets and quieter alleyways.
Mill
Moulin De Kat
The Moulin De Kat It's impressive by its present mechanics and its vertical silhouette, visible from as far as you can see. Turning around the site, we understand the stakes of water, wind and manufacturing art.
Historical house
Czaar Peterhuisje
Czaar Peterhuisje protects a small wooden house linked to the stay of Peter the Great in Zaandam. Interest is due to the small scale of the rooms, the dark beams and the contrast between this modest house and the building that is now home, almost like a museum case.
