Merzouga is located on the edge of the Chebbi erg, whose dunes form a landscape distinct from the nearby stone plains. Rissani links this discovery to the historical territory of Tafilalet and to Moulay Ali Chérif mausoleum. The exits into the sand require an appropriate organization; neither bivouacs nor off-road movements are presumed to be allowed.
Erg Chebbi, Merzouga and Rissani give the most telling landmarks of Merzouga and the Chebbi erg. Together, they form a destination where desert areas, natural spaces, heritage and the countryside meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than just one uniform decor.

For a stay of 3 to 5 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: limit the contour to Rissani, Merzouga and l'erg; confront any east extension to the watch card and local instructions and the selection includes all the Dune Polygon Erg Chebbi, whose south approaches the border band in heightened vigilance on the national map. Risk level used as a precautionary measure; exact limit of vigilance to be specified before any extension or route to the southeast. Tauz and entire border municipalities are excluded. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.
