To understand what Salzkammergut and Hallstatt are, you have to look at Hallstatt, Wolfgangsee and Dachstein. The Hoher Dachstein closes the horizon of the Salzkammergut by its glaciers, limestone walls and hanging viewpoints. From Hallstatt or Obertraun, the excursion leads to ice caves, cable cars and lake views, with a mountain weather that can quickly transform the experience.

Hallstatt
Hallstatt is closed between lake and mountain, with sloping houses, docks and very recognizable views. The village is beautiful but saturated: it gains to be approached early or from the neighbouring banks.

The Wolfgangsee offers a bright version of the Salzkammergut, between embankments, grassy beaches and villages set at the foot of the slopes. St. Wolfgang, Strobl or St. Gilgen allows you to move from a boat crossing to a swim or a short walk, without the tourist intensity of Hallstatt.

Dachstein Krippenstein
The Dachstein Krippenstein opens up high mountain panoramas above the lakes and karst plateaus. Caves, gazebos and climbs require a clear weather to really justify the climb.
