Marsh mosaic, pine forests, bayous and carnivorous plants in the humid east of Texas.
To understand what Big Thicket is, you have to look at Big Thicket National Preserve, Kirby Nature Trail and Pitcher Plant Trail. These places give us a landscape marked by forests, wetlands, river landscapes and natural spaces and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

Big Thicket National Preserve Natural worlds rarely juxtaposed: pine forests, marshes, deciduous forests, carnivorous plants and tannins browned streams. The reserve is discovered in small touches, on short trails or in canoes, with biodiversity that changes almost every detour.

Kirby Nature Trail
Kirby Nature Trail crosses one of the most accessible portions of the Big Thicket, between magnolias, cypresses, palmottos and humid undergrowth. The trail is well suited to an initial approach to the reserve, as it shows in a short distance the plant richness and contrasting atmospheres of this Texas forest.

Pitcher Plant Trail
Pitcher Plant Trail leads to the wetlands where carnivorous plants grow Big Thicket, small vegetal urns that trap insects. The walk is short but singular, especially in spring, when the soil sipped with water and discreet flowers reveal a very special ecosystem.

Village Creek State Park
Village Creek State Park follows a clear stream lined with sand, cypress and thick forest. The park attracts travelers who want to alternate swimming, canoeing, shady trails and quiet nights, in a soft and aquatic version of the Pine Woods.
