Monument Valley aline sandstone butts, red mesas and dusty tracks in a Navajo landscape become one of the most recognizable images of the American West. The valley reads from the viewpoints as well as from the inner road, where the formations take very different names, shadows and proportions.

John Ford Point
John Ford Point opens a frontal view of the buttocks of Monument Valley, with a rocky promontory associated with the westerns turned in the area. The site may seem familiar before even having gone there; on the spot, it is mainly the empty space, the red dust and the low line of the horizon that mark.

Mittens
The Mittens, West Mitten and East Mitten, set their twin silhouettes above the red plain of Monument Valley. Views from the right angle, their "inches" of sandstone respond on both sides of the landscape; at sunrise or sunset, their elongated shadows highlight their full presence.

Valley Drive
Valley Drive is the track that descends into the heart of Monument Valley, between isolated butts, massive mesas and sandy views. The course is slow, sometimes bumpy, but it completely changes the relationship to the landscape: the formations are no longer just a panorama, they become markers around which the road turns.
