The castle of Narva stands opposite the Ivangorod fortress, on the other side of a river which now marks a very visible border. Tours, walls and exhibition halls take on a particular intensity here, because medieval architecture is read in an immediate political and geographical face-to-face.

Sillamäe descends towards the sea by a monumental axis bordered by Stalinist buildings, squares and symmetrical staircases. This old closed city retains a very singular atmosphere: ordered facades, Baltic horizon and industrial memories meet there in an almost cinematic setting.
