Wooden domes rise in tiers above a tall central body. Looking at the roofs from different sides of the pogost reveals the rhythm of the levels and the texture of the shingles.

Lower than the neighbouring Transfiguration Church, the Intercession Church offers a contrasting wooden silhouette within the same ensemble. Its clustered domes balance the long slopes of the roof.

Bell Tower of the Kizhi Pogost
The bell tower is the pogost’s third landmark, alongside the two churches. Its vertical body and pointed roof contrast with the domes; viewing them together helps explain the composition of the site.

The large log houses reveal another scale of Kizhi’s architecture. Their galleries, windows and roof volumes draw attention to domestic buildings as well as the religious monuments.
