Spectacular archaeological and monastic landscape in the meanders of the Răut, between limestone cliffs, villages and caves.
Rupestrian Monastery, Butuceni and Răut give the most telling landmarks of Orheiul Vechi. Together they form a destination where heritage, riverscapes, countryside and natural spaces meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than a single uniform decor.

Rupest Monastery
The cave monastery Orheiul Vechi is dug in the cliff above a meander of the Răut, with a small church, cells and a cross overlooking the valley. The contrast between limestone, villages and the river gives the site a very concrete force, especially by razing light.

Butuceni
Butuceni stretch at the foot of the cliffs Orheiul Vechi, with low houses, painted portals, gardens and rural pensions. The village allows to live the site other than from the viewpoints: Moldovan meals, dirt roads, low-court sounds and permanent views of the limestone relief.
