Sigulda and Turaida
Castles, caves and gazebos dominate the wooded valley of the Gauja at the gates of Riga.
Turaida Castle, Gūtmanis Cave and Sigulda Castle give the most telling landmarks of Sigulda and Turaida. Together, they form a destination where forests, riverscapes, heritage and natural spaces meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than just one uniform decor.

Turaida Castle
Turaida Castle stands its red brick above a Gauja meander, in a vast area of museums, gardens and paths. From the tower, the forests of the valley grow in full scope, especially in autumn when the slopes cover themselves in warm colours.

Gūtmanis Cave
The Gūtmanis cave opens in a wall of red sandstone marked with ancient inscriptions, some engraved for centuries. Its size counts less than the accumulation of names, legends and human traces, at the edge of the paths of the Gauja valley.

Sigulda Castle
In Sigulda, the medieval ruins and the new castle occupy a promontory facing the forests of the Gauja and Turaida. The open walls, terraces and views of the valley make the place particularly legible when comparing the two banks.
