Taierzhuang and Weishan Lake are found around the ancient town of Taierzhuang, the Battle of Taierzhuang Memorial and Weishan Lake. The stay thus alternates between urban life, heritage, shores and lakes and wetlands, giving a concrete picture of the destination beyond its only best known site.

Taierzhuang was a port of the Grand Canal and a major battlefield in 1938. Much of it was rebuilt, but canals, museums and traces of the conflict gave several levels of reading.

The memorial documents one of the first great Chinese victories of the war against Japan. The museum is dense and must be approached with the time necessary in the historical context.

Lake Weishan
Weishan Lake is the largest of a string of lakes connected to the Grand Canal, between reeds and fishing villages. Boat trips are very seasonal and the condition of the wetlands varies with the water level.

The interior canals follow the docks, bridges and old houses of the Grand Canal harbour. A morning walk allows you to read their route before evening shows and cruises. The beginning of the day usually offers more calm.
