必去之地
Amana Colonies
The Amana Colonies are a group of seven villages founded by a German-speaking religious community, with brick houses, workshops, gardens and old collective kitchens. Between bakeries, craft shops and preserved buildings, the stay gives a concrete idea of this community life which has long organized work, meals and trades.
必去之地
Amana General Store
L-Amana General Store keeps the spirit of old village shops, with its tight shelves, home-made products, jams, candy and everyday items. It is a talking address to grasp the domestic side of the Amana Colonies, less museum than living, especially when one is interested in local culinary traditions.
必去之地
Amana Church
I'm not sure what I'm doing.Amana Church recalls the spiritual heart of the colonies, in a sober architecture where ornamentation counts less than collective discipline. The place evokes the assemblies of the Inspirationists, their German language, their songs and a way of life oriented towards the community rather than towards staging.
文化与遗产
South Amana Barn Museum
Located in a large barn in South Amana, this museum highlights tools, vehicles and agricultural objects that tell about the daily work of the colonies. The building volumes, the structure and the collections give a concrete view of the fields, workshops and the rural organisation that supported the villages.
