概述
Baxter State Park and Mount Katahdin
Maine's destination centered on deep forests, cold lakes and appalachian reliefs, useful for covering the interior nature of Maine.
Mount Katahdin, Baxter State Park and Chimney Pond provide the most telling landmarks of Baxter State Park and Mount Katahdin. Together, they form a destination where mountain reliefs, forests, shores and lakes and natural spaces meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.

For a stay of 3 to 6 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: seasonality to check and sometimes important distances. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be verified step by step.

Nature and landscape
Mount Katahdin
Mount Katahdin imposes its presence as soon as the approach, a sharp massif placed over a forest without a way out. Ascension requires real energy, then passage on the Knife Edge gives a rare sensation of suspension on all lakes below. It is the summit that marks the territory, not a simple panorama of postcards.
Nature and landscape
Baxter State Park
Baxter State Park remains deliberately rough: rare roads, large wooded spaces and trails that cause slowing down. It is for the same reason as at the beginning, the great silences and the presence of ordinary nature. Moose are only a bonus when you cross this vast corridor of forests, water and mountains.
Place indismissible
Chimney Pond
Chimney Pond After a forest walk that makes the finish even stronger. At the waterside, the walls of Katahdin stand above the shoals and pine trees, in a natural amphitheater that hikers often hold as the heart of the Baxter State Park.
