This area connects the large port city of Benghazi with the ancient towns of Tocra and Ptolemaïs, near Tolmeita. It looks at the Greek, Roman and colonial heritages of the coast. The safe exception for Benghazi does not cover external archaeological stages: their inclusion requires the highest level of risk.
The discovery of Benghazi and Tolmeita is centred around Benghazi, Ptolemaïs, site of Tolmeita and Former Benghazi Cathedral. The stay thus alternates between urban life, the coastline and the heritage, which gives a concrete picture of the destination beyond its only best known site.

For a stay of 3 to 5 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: composed area formally not recommended: the orange exception only concerns the city of Benghazi; Tocra and Tolmeita remain in red. Activities express a heritage interest, without guaranteed availability and access to sites, state of monuments, timetables and authorizations to be confirmed; no guaranteed internal access. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

Benghazi is a large port town in Cyrenaica on the Gulf of Sirte. Its history links the ancient settlements of Euesperides and Berenice to the Ottoman, Italian and contemporary transformations, the traces of which are read in the urban landscape.

The ruins of Ptolemaïs are near the present village of Tolmeita. This city belonged to the Cyrenaic Pentapole, with Cyrene, Apollonia and other centres, which allows to understand an ancient urban network on a regional scale.

Tocra, also known as Tauchera or Tukrah, is a coastal town in Cyrenaica, and is associated with an ancient foundation from Cyrene. It completes the network of the Pentapole and links Benghazi geographically to the remains of Ptolemais.
