The Loess Hills form a strip of steep and thin hills deposited by the wind along the Missouri, with grassy ridges that quickly change colour according to the season. The landscape slices with the neighbouring agricultural plains: rolling roads, tight ravines, dry meadows and long views towards the valley.

Hitchcock Nature Center protects one of the best accesses to the Loess Hills ridges, with trails that pass from undergrowth to open meadows.
