Picos de Europa

Picu Urriellu, Covadonga and Ruta del Cares give the most telling landmarks of Picos de Europa. Together, they form a destination where mountain reliefs, natural spaces and heritage meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than a single uniform decor.

For a stay of 3 to 7 days, it is necessary to plan a fairly sustained day. Also to be expected: mountain weather and sometimes demanding hikes. A car is usually the easiest way to connect different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

The Picu Urriellu embodies the mountain as a steep shape: massive blocks, accented relief, traces of passages and dominant presence in all the valleys. Ascension or observation requires careful progression, where each stop reveals a different geometry. It's a line and material experience, more than performance.

Covadonga is distinguished by a rare combination of sacred, relief and popular presence: sanctuary, stairs, waters and surrounding reliefs. The place becomes more talking when you take time to alternate external approach and heart of the site. Cloud passage often gives volume-specific intensity.

Fuente De
Fuente Dé marks one of the most striking accesses to the Picos de Europa, with a cable car that brutally crosses the rocky wall over the valley. At the top, the trails go towards a mineral world, bright and more exposed; the weather often decides on the quality of the experience.

Ruta del Cares
The Ruta del Cares imposes a rhythm of frontal walking: alternating wide passages, close walls and views of the gullies. The reliefs and the water become constant anchor points to keep attention over the kilometres. It's a beautiful progression experience that is savoury by leaving space between each stage.
