At the Piton de la Fournaise, the road crosses the Plaine des Sables before reaching a black, red and mineral volcanic enclosure. Recent flows, craters and rapid changes in weather make walking spectacular, but access still depends on volcano activity and safety orders.

The Réunion National Park brings together circuses, ramparts, humid forests, altitude plains and volcanic landscapes in a space where walking dominates the experience.
