The low hills north of Xilinhot overlook a recent town that opens directly onto the pastures of Xilingol. The gazebo gives a useful geographical landmark before long excursions in the steppe.

Xilingol's meadows form one of the great pastoral landscapes of China, with open horizons, herds and seasonal camps. The distances are considerable; a vehicle with local driver allows to limit too much scenographed stops.
