General presentation
Braga et Guimarães
Two historic cities of Minho, between shrines, ancient centres, hills, religious heritage and the birth of Portugal.
Bom Jesus do Monte, Centre of Braga and Guimarães give the most telling landmarks of Braga and Guimarães. Together, they form a destination where urban life, heritage and the countryside meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than a single uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 2 to 4 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: rain possible and flood during the holidays. The trip can be organised without a car if the drop point and local connections are selected in advance. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be checked step by step.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

World Heritage
Sanctuaire du Bon-Jésus-du-Mont de Braga
Above Braga, the sanctuary of the Good Jesus of the Mount organizes religious ascent in terraces, baroque stairs, chapels and symbolic fountains. The ascent gradually reveals the city and the hills, while the hydraulic funicular offers another way to reach the church without losing the thread of the landscape.

Place
Guimarães
Guimarães is read in the coexistence of ancient spaces and living areas: squares, narrow streets, and municipal rhythm close to everyday life. The place shows a city that has retained a used texture without erasing its historical strata. A slow progression is enough to see how each part responds to the next.

Heritage
Château de Guimarães
The castle of Guimarães first imposes a clear architectural logic, with volumes that frame the memory of the place. Around, the courts and accesses allow us to understand how this type of structure is inserted into a larger tissue. It is better to visit it from outside and then dive into the inner areas.

Place
Citânia de Briteiros
At the Briteiros Citania, the relief and the built traces respond: one perceives an ancient presence without resorting to an imposed narrative. Paths, viewpoints and visible remains make reading tactile. It is a stop where space, more than panels, makes clear the continuity of the site.
