General presentation
Parc national de Peneda-Gerês
Unique Portuguese national park, between granite mountains, villages, waterfalls, sanctuaries and valley roads.
Mata da Albergaria, Cascata do Arado and Soajo give the most telling landmarks of Peneda-Gerês National Park. Together, they form a destination where mountain reliefs, natural spaces and forests meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than a single uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 6 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: very frequented swimming and trails to choose with care. A car is usually the easiest way to connect different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be checked step by step.

Mountain and nature
Serra Amarela et Peneda-Gerês
The Serra Amarela sums up the landscapes of the Peneda-Gerês with its granite blocks, pastures of altitude and deep-cashed valleys. Routes cross hamlets, walls and areas where horses and cattle live on semi-freedom. A day of walking reveals this mosaic better than the only crossing by car.

Cascade
Cascata do Arado
The waterfall of Arado slides between large granite slabs before reaching basins in the heart of a wooded valley. A staircase and several observation points allow you to approach it without taking a long hike. Its flow varies greatly: after a rainy period, the show is more powerful, but the rocks become slippery.

Village and heritage
Espigueiros de Soajo
Twenty-four granite attices on the common area of Soajo stand on pillars to protect corn from moisture and animals. There is free movement between these small, tight buildings, with the park mountains in the background. The site gives a very concrete shape to the rural traditions still visible in the villages of Gerês.
