General presentation
Douro Valley
Winery in terraces, river, miradouros, quintas, panoramic trains and villages between Peso da Régua and Pinhão.
Pinhão, Peso da Régua and São João da Pesqueira give the most telling landmarks of Douro Valley. Together, they form a destination where riverscapes, countryside, heritage and natural spaces meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 2 to 5 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: winding roads and heat in summer. The trip can be organised without a car if the drop point and local connections are selected in advance. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be checked step by step.

World Heritage
Région viticole du Haut-Douro
The Haut-Douro is recognized on its terraced slopes, tight over the river and covered with vines intended especially for the port. The white quintas, the shale walls and the meandering of the Douro make up a working landscape, very different depending on whether it arrives by road, train or boat.

Vineyard and panorama
Vallée du Douro et ses vignobles
In the Haut-Douro, the vineyards draw tight terraces on slopes that descend directly to the river. The road, the train or the boat each give a different reading of this landscape shaped by generations of wine growers. Several viewpoints measure its size without reducing the valley to a single quinta.

Village and heritage
Pinhão
Pinhão settles in a curve of the Douro at the confluence of the river of the same name, in the middle of the wine hillsides. Its station covered with azulejos tells about the harvest and the transport of wine, while the quay invites you to board or simply watch the river pass. The village is a particularly legible base for a first discovery of the valley.

Panorama
Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura
The lookout of São Leonardo de Galafura dominates a long loop of the Douro, with the wine terraces set on several levels. A few steps around the chapel are enough to make the point of view vary and understand the depth of the valley. The end of the afternoon particularly accentuates the lines of the hillsides.
