Raised in the 15th century on the Asian shore of the Dardanelles, Çimenlik was involved in the control of the Strait. The castle now belongs to the naval museum of Çanakkale and recalls the strategic importance of this sea passage.

Near the present village of Behramkale, Assos occupies a height of the Aegean coast opposite Lesbos. The ancient city combines urban remains and dominant position, in a sector different from that of Troy.
