General presentation
Erzurum
Erzurum gathers medieval stone monuments on a high Anatolian plateau. The medersas with carved portals and the citadel structure the discovery of the center. Nearby, Palandöken introduces a mountain dimension, especially winter. The urban visit to a sports stay should be distinguished and account taken of the altitude and cold.
The discovery of Erzurum is centred around Médersa with two minarets of Erzurum, Médessa Yakutiye and Citadelle d'Erzurum. The stay thus alternates between urban life, heritage and mountain reliefs, giving a concrete picture of the destination beyond its only best known site.
See all
For a stay of 2 to 4 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: increased vigilance and harsh winter and altitude; opening of Palandöken equipment to be confirmed. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

Heritage
Médersa aux deux minarets d’Erzurum
The Çifte Minareli Medrese is recognized by its two canned minarets, which frame a monumental façade. This former religious school belongs to the late Seljuk period and is one of the main landmarks of the historical centre of Erzurum.

Heritage
Médersa Yakutiye
Built in 1310 at the initiative of Governor Hoca Yakut, this madrasa belongs to the Ilkhanid period. Its portal and architectural organization allow us to approach another phase of the history of Erzurum, after the Seljuk monuments.
Heritage
Citadelle d’Erzurum
In the centre of Erzurum, the citadel retains a long history of fortification dating back to late antiquity. Its proximity to the medrasas facilitates a reading of the ancient core where defence, power and religious institutions shared a tight space.
Nature
Mont Palandöken
Palandöken rises immediately south of Erzurum and dominates an already high plateau. The massif is associated with winter sports, but the geographical top, the slopes and the tourist facilities represent different points to distinguish during preparation.
