General presentation
Faroe Islands
Falaise, grass-roofed villages and narrow straits form a self-contained North Atlantic archipelago with a very changing climate.
Tórshavn, Saksun and Mykines give the most telling landmarks of the Faroe Islands. Together, they form a destination where island landscapes, coastline, mountain reliefs and heritage meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.

For a stay of 2 to 6 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be verified step by step.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Place indismissible
Tórshavn
Tórshavn Surrounds the port of Streymoy with red houses with grass roofs in Tinganes, narrow streets and docks still active. The capital keeps an intimate scale despite its political role; fog, low lights and cafes in the center give a precise first contact with the Faroes.

Place indismissible
Saksun
Saksun nests in the north of Streymoy, above an ancient lagoon surrounded by steep mountains. The houses with grass roofs, white church and pastures make up a landscape very photographed, but also inhabited; the private paths and properties require to follow clearly authorized accesses.

Place indismissible
Mykines
Mykines Marks the inhabited western end of the Faroes, with an isolated village, cliffs and colonies of macareux in season. Boat and helicopter depend heavily on the weather, which makes every visit uncertain; on the spot, exposed paths require to stay on marked routes.

Place indismissible
Kalsoy
Kalsoy It is crossed by a narrow road, dark tunnels and four villages lined with steep ridges. To the north, the Kamlur lighthouse opens a striking view of nearby cliffs, sea and islands; the weather can transform the walk in a few minutes, between fog, gusts and sharp light.
