General presentation
Fukui, Eiheiji et Tōjinbō
Zen Monastery, dinosaur fossils and basaltic cliffs reveal three very different faces of the Hokuriku.
Eihei-ji Temple, Prefectural Museum of the Fukui dinosaurs and Tōjinbō Falaise give the most telling landmarks of Fukui, Eiheiji and Tōjinbō. Together, they form a destination where urban life, the coastline, heritage and natural spaces meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 6 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Temple
Temple Eihei-ji
Eihei-ji is one of the two large monasteries of the Zen Sōtō school, still occupied by a community of monks. Covered corridors connect halls, kitchens and meditation spaces under large cedars, in a silent and rigorously maintained ensemble.

Museum
Musée préfectoral des dinosaures de Fukui
Museum of dinosaurs of Fukui The large dome-shaped room is very accessible to families, but its scientific richness also justifies a long visit for adults.

Place indismissible
Falaises de Tōjinbō
Tōjinbō exhibits columns of volcanic rock directly beaten by the Japanese Sea over a kilometre. The trails allow to observe the cliffs from several angles, without barriers on some sections: wind, waves and near the vacuum require a real caution.
