General presentation
Giverny and the Vexin
Giverny and the Vexin form a destination of gardens, villages and Seine landscapes associated with Impressionism. In Giverny, Claude Monet’s pink house opens onto the Clos Normand, composed like a flowering palette, then onto the water garden, its pond, willows and Japanese bridge: you step directly into the motifs that nourished the painter’s work.
Around the village, the valley widens between limestone hills, fields, orchards and river bends. Vernon, La Roche-Guyon, the small roads of the Vexin and their ridge paths extend the visit into a broader landscape, dotted with stone houses, rural churches, châteaux and viewpoints. The area suits a day of art as well as two or three days of gentle walking and cycling.
See all
Monet’s house and gardens are very busy during their opening season: booking and arriving early in the day makes the visit more pleasant. Giverny can be reached without a car by train to Vernon–Giverny, then by a local connection or bike; to explore the villages and viewpoints of the Vexin more widely, distances and limited service require careful planning, and a car often remains the simplest option.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Museum
House of Monet
The House of Monet imposes a significant progression: gardens in depth, sober rooms, views of the basins and finishes of the places. The best is to alternate indoor and outdoor to measure the relationship between plant frame and light. The details, more than historical facts, give the intensity of the place.

Village
La Roche-Guyon
At La Roche-Guyon, the rock and the valley make up a powerful setting that is immediately visible from the old centre. The interest is in the gentle climb then the wide view, when the curves of the stream join the relief. A stop is better to be thought of as alternating ladders.

Walk
Banks of the Seine
The banks of the Seine lend themselves to a smooth walk: bridges, docks, reflections, secondary docks, and then back on the alignments. The landscape seems to invite the natural slowdown, with views that evolve at each detour. It is an excellent journey when you want to unify several facets of the place without changing the theme.
