General presentation
Paris, a city of a thousand faces.
Paris is both a monumental capital and an assembly of very different neighborhoods, linked by the Seine. Around the river are the great landmarks — the Louvre, the Tuileries, the Eiffel Tower — while squares, Haussmannian boulevards, covered passages and gardens tell centuries of urban history.
From one bank to another, the atmosphere changes quickly: the Marais mixes private hotels and neighbourhood life, Saint-Germain keeps its cafes and galleries, Montmartre climbs between stairs and workshops, when the canals and streets of the north-east show a more daily Paris. Museums, markets, theatres, small tables and walks on the docks thus allow to alternate heritage, culture and street scenes.
See all
Paris is very easy to visit without a car thanks to the metro, the RER and the buses, supplemented by long sequences on foot. To avoid an exhausting rhythm, it is better to group the visits by neighborhood, reserve the most requested monuments and museums, then keep some beaches free; early morning and evening, the major sites are often more pleasant and the city less dense.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Monument
Tour Eiffel et Champ-de-Mars
The Eiffel Tower is as well understood from its floors as from the Champ-de-Mars, where its structure takes all its measure. Around, lawns, perspectives to the Military School and views from the Trocadéro make it possible to vary the angles, especially early in the morning or after dark.

Remarkable location
Arche de la Défense
The Arche de la Défense extends the historic axis of Paris in a setting of towers, mineral parvis and perspectives tense towards the Arc de Triomphe. Its shape of eviscerated cube changes character according to the hour, between public monument, business district landmark and gazebo when access to the roof is open.

Remarkable location
Catacombes de Paris
The Catacombs dive under the south of Paris into an old network of quarries transformed into ossuary, with walls of bones, inscriptions and narrow corridors. The experience is slow, fresh and deliberately sober; it is suitable for visitors ready to face stairs, low light and prolonged underground atmosphere.

Museum
Louvre, Tuileries et Palais-Royal
From the Louvre to the Tuileries, Paris has an axis of palaces, courtyards, gardens and facades that connects art to the urban promenade. The Palais-Royal adds a more intimate ladder, with its galleries and enclosed garden, perfect for breathing between two museum rooms or two large avenues.
