General presentation
Guadalupe Mountains
The highest peaks of Texas, fossil reefs and forested canyons dominating the desert.
To understand what Guadalupe Mountains is, you have to look at Guadalupe Peak, McKittrick Canyon and El Capitan. These places give us a view of a territory marked by mountain reliefs, desert areas and natural spaces and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

For a stay of 3 to 6 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be verified step by step.

Nature and panorama
Guadalupe Peak
Guadalupe Peak attracts walkers for its demanding ascent to the highest point of Texas, over the Chihuahuan Desert. The trail leads to exposed ridges, sparse pines and huge views of El Capitan, dry plains and rocky folds of the Guadalupe Mountains.

Nature and panorama
McKittrick Canyon
McKittrick Canyon hides an oasis of deciduous and seasonal sources between dry walls of Guadalupe Mountains. In autumn, maples and ash trees strongly colour the bottom of the canyon; the rest of the year, the contrast between vegetation, light limestone and desert around it is enough to mark the walk.

Place indismissible
El Capitan
El Capitan stands like a massive prow on the southern edge of the Guadalupe Mountains, visible from a distance from the roads of the western texan. The top is not the highest of the massif, but its steep silhouette and its origin of old fossilized reef give it a very strong geological presence.

Nature and panorama
Salt Basin Dunes
The Salt Basin Dunes display pale dunes at the foot of the Guadalupe Mountains, in a dry basin that amplifies the feeling of isolation. The contrast between gypsum sand, hard sky and dark cliffs is striking, especially when the wind erases the traces and redraws the undulations.
