General presentation
Icefields Parkway
High Mountain Road from Banff to Jasper between glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and successive viewpoints.
The discovery of the Icefield Promenade is centred around Columbia Icefield, Athabasca Glacier and Peyto Lake. The stay thus alternates between mountain reliefs, shores and lakes, riverscapes and natural spaces, giving a concrete picture of the destination beyond its only best known site.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 6 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be verified step by step.

Nature and panorama
Athabasca Glacier
I'm not sure what I'm doing.Athabasca Glacier descends from the Columbia Icefield to near the road, making the ice exceptionally tangible. Moraines and retreat panels show its retreat, while walking towards the ice front makes the cold, slope and fragility of a changing landscape feel.

Nature and landscape
Peyto Lake
Peyto Lake is recognized for its curved shape and glacial blue, observed from a lookout over Icefields Parkway. The view is brief but very striking: the lake seems to be laid in a bowl of forest and rock, with the mountains closing the horizon.

Nature and panorama
Sunwapta Falls
Sunwapta Falls precipitates ice water into a narrow channel, with a small wooded island just before the main fall. The site offers a quick stop on Icefields Parkway: sprays, rumbling, walkways and short trails to lower waterfalls to extend the visit.

Nature and panorama
Mistaya Canyon
Mistaya Canyon reveals a turquoise river that has dug rounded forms in limestone, a short distance from Icefields Parkway. The trail quickly descends to the carved rocks, where the water flows in narrow corridors and gives an impression of concentrated force.
