General presentation
Mammoth Lakes et Eastern Sierra
Altitude lakes, hot springs and steep panoramas east of the Sierra.
To understand what Mammoth Lakes and Eastern Sierra are, look at Devils Postpile, Convict Lake and Mono Lake. These places give you a view of a territory marked by mountain reliefs, shores and lakes and natural spaces and allow you to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

For a stay of 4 to 8 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be verified step by step.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Place indismissible
Devils Postpile
Devils Postpile exhibits a cliff of almost hexagonal basaltic columns, erect like a dark stone beam on the edge of the San Joaquin River. The trail combines volcanic geology, Sierra forest and, a little further, the fall of Rainbow Falls when the water is strong.

Nature and landscape
Convict Lake
Convict Lake heats up a cold turquoise water at the foot of steep walls, with Mount Morrison closing the horizon like a wall. The lake tower gives very different angles on the reflections, the reeds and the peaks, while the fishermen come mainly for trout.

Nature and landscape
Mono Lake
Mono Lake looks like a lunar landscape set in the Eastern Sierra desert, with its whitish tuff towers coming out of the alkaline water. The shores attract many migratory birds, visible above the alkaline flies and brine shrimp that feed this very particular ecosystem.

Place indismissible
Hot Creek
In Hot Creek A clear river runs through a mineral gorge where hot springs colour the water of unreal blues and greens. The contrast between fumoils, dust banks and snowy peaks of the Sierra gives the site a rare volcanic tension, even if swimming is prohibited.
