Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Fortress
Kazan Kremlin
Kazan Kremlin brings together walls, towers, a cathedral and museums on the old citadel. Its World Heritage status reflects the site's long history and the meeting of Tatar and Russian cultures. Check the hours of each building you plan to enter.

Mosque
Kul Sharif Mosque
Completed in 2005 inside the Kremlin, Kul Sharif Mosque commemorates a mosque of the Kazan Khanate destroyed in the 16th century. Its minarets and blue dome rise above the complex. It remains an active place of worship, so tourist access may be restricted during prayers, especially on Fridays.

Historic quarter
Old Tatar Quarter
Between Lower Kaban Lake and the Bulak canal, the Old Tatar Quarter has streets of colourful houses, courtyards and several mosques. Walk along Kayum Nasyri Street to take in its facades rather than a single monument; entry to individual buildings depends on their opening arrangements.

Pedestrian street
Bauman Street
Bauman Street links the Kremlin area with Tukay Square. Along the pedestrian route are buildings from different periods, the Epiphany bell tower and street sculptures. Leave time for short detours rather than walking straight through.
