Seek the horizon beyond the climb.
Tamanrasset gives access to the volcanic reliefs of the Haggar, of which Assekrem is an emblematic viewpoint. In Abalessa, the tomb attributed to Tin Hinan opens another reading of the Touaregian history. The size of the cultural park requires that the selected areas be specified: the city, the Atakor routes and the border margins do not form a uniformly accessible area.

General presentation
Tamanrasset and the Ahaggar
Tamanrasset gives access to the volcanic reliefs of the Haggar, of which Assekrem is an emblematic viewpoint. In Abalessa, the tomb attributed to Tin Hinan opens another reading of the Touaregian history. The size of the cultural park requires that the selected areas be specified: the city, the Atakor routes and the border margins do not form a uniformly accessible area.
Ahaggar — relief of Ilamane in Atakor, Assekrem and Tamanrasset give the most telling landmarks of Tamanrasset and Ahaggar. Together, they form a destination where desert areas, mountain reliefs, volcanic landscapes and heritage meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 5 to 8 days, you must plan a fairly sustained day. Also to be anticipated: wide perimeter including formally not recommended border margins; maximum level retained, to be re-evaluated only after delineation of Saharan circuits and excursions: guide and authorizations to be checked. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

Nature
Ahaggar — relief d’Ilamane dans l’Atakor
The Ilamane peak is a relief named from the Haggar, distinct from the Assekrem and the neighbouring homonymous village. It provides a reference point for reading the landscapes of the Atakor. The chosen position is the mapped top, without announcing an ascent or representing the entire cultural park.

Nature
Assekrem
L-Assekrem is a high plateau of Atakor, in Haggar, associated with the hermitage of Charles de Foucauld. It is a lookout on the surrounding reliefs; the altitude and distance make it an excursion to be prepared separately from the stay in Tamanrasset.

Walk
Tamanrasset
Tamanrasset is an urban centre of the Haggar and an important place of the Touaregue culture. Its elevation in the Sahara makes it a base for regional circuits; the city does not, however, summarize the conditions encountered in the remote mountains.

Heritage
Tombeau de Tin Hinan à Abalessa
The funeral monument of Abalessa is traditionally associated with Tin Hinan, a major figure in the Tuareg stories. It is a separate archaeological site from Tamanrasset; traditional attribution and research results must be exposed with their respective levels of certainty.
